Philmont Page

Welcome to my Philmont Page.  I spent an above average amount of time at Philmont several years ago. I visited as a camper with a co-ed High Adventure Explorer Post from Illinois in 1981 and 1982. In 1981 we hiked the northern country through Poņil, over Baldy, and then down past Beaubien and Philips Junction. We ended by hiking the Tooth of Time, down the ridge, and back into base camp.  In 1982 we took a completely different route and hiked more of the southern country. We hit places such as Crater Lake, Fish Camp, Abreú, Apache Springs, and more.

In 1983 I chose not to hike the mountains of Philmont with the High Adventure Explorer Post. Rather, I spent the entire summer at Philmont. Although I worked at Base Camp, I was afforded the luxury to hike many of Philmont's mountains as well as those in the Wheeler Peak area. In 1984 I returned for my second year as a staff member. 1984 saw me at Poņil in a year that would have flash floods and hail storms. In 1985 I returned as a staff member back at Base Camp helping to manage the Trading Post. 1986 I skipped out and stayed in Indianapolis for the summer; however, in 1987 I was able to return for my fourth and best summer as a staff member. In 1986 I had the honor of being a "cowboy" at the best camp at Philmont -- Beaubien.
